I enjoy highlighting book covers each month and try to give some background information on the designer. It’s not always possible to obtain information on book cover designers but I make a good effort to get the information. Below are my favorite book covers for 2024 in order of importance, ie, the first cover you see is my top book cover of the year. Here we go!

2024 was the first year that I participated in this challenge. Initially I thought it would be easy to find a wide variety of books that met the challenge but that did not turn out to be true. Most of the books I read were OK but several I did not like at all. The best books were the last two that I read: Girl 11 and 12 Days of Mistletoe.

2025 New Release Reading Challenge

I will be rejoining the New Release Reading Challenge in 2025. Since most of the books I read in any given year are new releases this should be an easy challenge to complete. My participation level is New Release Veteran which requires me to read 61 - 100 books. 

Challenge Rules 

1)  The challenge runs the calendar year from January 1st through December 31st.

2)  Books must be published in 2025.

3)  Books can count towards more than one challenge, meme, book-tag, or book-list.

4)  The minimum length for a book to qualify is 100 pages and can be in any format such as physical, e-book, ARC or audiobook, in any genre (including graphic novels and comics), set in any era (past, present, or future), and written for any reading age group.

5)  You don’t have to be a book blogger to participate, you can link to your review on Goodreads or Booklikes or anywhere that you post a review of a newly released book.

6)  If you want to spread the love, please use #2025NewReleaseChallenge on any and all social media sites where you promote your reviews.

7)  There is a Facebook Group for the New Release Challenge, to have a place where we can keep up with each other, cheer each other on, and get to know each other better. It is also a place where we can help each other find even more new releases. For those of you who have already participated, it’s the same group as before.

8)  You can also link to your review on Goodreads or Booklikes or anywhere that you post a review of a newly released book.

9)  There are five levels in the New Release Challenge:

1-30 books per year – New Release Newbie

31-60 books per year – New Release Pro

61-100 books per year – New Release Veteran  (my personal goal)

101-200 books per year – New Release Enthusiast

200+ books per year – New Release Obsessed

Wrap-Up of the 2024 New Release Reading Challenge

This challenge is the easiest for me to complete. For the past several years most of the books that I have read were new releases. In 2024 I read 54 new releases and 29 new, to me, authors. Many of the books could have been my favorite for the year. They were expertly written. It was difficult in choosing just one as the favorite, especially because they come from different genres. Wrap-Up of the 2024 Graphic Novel and Manga Challenge

The Graphic Novel/ Manga Challenge is another favorite challenge of mine. When I signed up I could not pick a level of participation, wavering between reading 24 or 52 books.  In the end I read 28 novels. Many of them could be my favorite for the year, maybe even 10. The depth of writing was sky-high.  

The challenge host opened a Facebook group several years ago so that participants can post links to reviews. There isn't an annual sign up for the challenge anymore. Ice by Kevin Tinto. After reading 65 pages with no action or even a hint of the plot I decided to stop reading.  The book is advertised for kids 12 - 18 but I can't believe they would be interested.  It is probably the first book that I DNF'd in about 5 years.

When I saw the numbers for this challenge I was surprised at how many books I read from Luana Ehrlich.  All of them were read for the Clock Reading Challenge.  While they were OK reads, the plots were similar. Wrap-Up of the 2024 Color Coded Reading Challenge

I have enjoyed participating in the Color Coded Reading Challenge over the years. It's getting harder to find books with a color in the title. At this point I need to be selecting new releases. Fortunately, the 2025 challenge allows books with covers that have a majority of a color. That makes it easier!
