There were three books I read this month with gorgeous book covers. Michiko Aoyama's Hot Chocolate on Thursday, R. F. Kuang's Taipei Story and Olive by Vero Cazot. Olive has a striking color pallette that captured my imagination. There is a boldness in these six shades of blue and a yellow green mirror image. Olive was also my second choice for book of the month. French artist Lucy Mazel illustrated the comic as well as the cover. She used watercolors directly onto a pencil sketch. Then she inked the sketch with a ballpoint pen. A Polychromos black pencil followed and then Lucy enhanced the colors with gouache. I never imagined that mixing together these mediums was possible but here we see a lovely result.
